(The old thread on this topic was comically outdated, so I removed it and am replacing it with this one.)
First off, our goal here is for everyone to have fun and enjoy creating a large inter-connected story with the shared topic of everyone's favorite epic space opera (Um, Star Wars, if you didn't catch that).
We don't want to be sticklers with too many rules and regulations, but there are some vague guidelines that the admins and mods have to enforce to make sure this stays more or less fair for everyone. At this point, you've certainly read the base rules for RP (If you haven't, go do that, then come back).
But beyond that, part of the joy of RP is taking your character through a development--a progression if you will--and in Star Wars, that's very easily translatable to certain power structures like the Jedi/Sith training hierarchy, or military rankings, or what-have-you.
So, naturally, your character's power is based on your post count*. This doesn't mean "Oh, your character has 132 posts, but my character has 133, so naturally I automatically win every fight. but it does mean that if a character has 15 posts versus a character that has 360, naturally the character with 360 posts will be far and away stronger than the other, and so you couldn't reasonably say "My 15-post Sith initiate uses force lightning and holds his own against the 360-post veteran Jedi knight."
That's bs--the rule is common sense, as with everything here. The trend is that the more posts you have, the more powerful you are, but that also doesn't mean you can't limit yourself for the sake of story. If you want your 360-post character to be challenged by the 15-post character, by all means let that happen.
Which brings us to the concept of title.
You should have noticed by now that in the top left of each of your posts, there's a title and a number of colored stars. The titles are (surprise, surprise) based on post count, and the ladder goes like this:
(Post count) - (Title)
1 - Force Blind
5 - Force Blind lv 2
15 - Force Blind lv 3
30 - Force Sensitive
50 - Force Apprentice
75 - Force Apprentice lv 2
105 - Force Apprentice lv 3
140 - First Trials
180 - Force Adept
225 - Force Adept lv 2
275 - Force Adept lv 3
330 - Second Trials
390 - Force Magus
455 - Force Magus lv 2
525 - Force Magus lv 3
600 - Final Trials
680 - Force Lord
765 - Force Lord lv 2
855 - Force Lord lv 3
950 - Force Master
This obviously doesn't hold true for those characters who aren't force-sensitive (and we have quite a few) but to use a Jedi as an example, from 30-Force Sensitive to 140-First Trials is roughly Padawan range; up through 330-Second Trials is Knight range; up through 600-Final Trials is veteran Knight range (and the point at which you can take up a Padawan of your own), and past 600-Final Trials is Jedi Master range.
But of course, these are just guidelines, and if you for example reach 180-Force Adept before you think your character is ready to be a Jedi Knight, then by all means keep him/her a Padawan until ready. I know that's what I did with Lents.
In short, use your common sense.** Don't give your 15-post budding sith initiate the power to force push seventeen Imperial I-class Star Destroyers all the way out of the star system. Be reasonable, have fun, and we'll see you out in the Galaxy.
