Welcome back, everyone! Along with our new plot (and hopefully... hopefully new members) I'd just like to get the ball rolling with one of our favorite topics... swear words. We all use them, but it's about time that we start using ones that are appropriate to our galaxy far far away. Here are a few examples of what you can use as opposed to "sh*t", "f*ck", or "d*mn" to make your story more convincing:
Simple Expletives:
Brix - "What the brix are you doing here?"
Crink - "Go crink yourself."
Frag - "Go frag yourself." / "Frag off."
Frack/Frell/Frink/Frip/Kark/Kriff/Skrag
Modifiers:
Flaming/Blinking/Kriffing/Skroggin'
Interjections/Exclamations:
Garthol's pain! - said when one is surprised
Oh, Shunfa! - as opposed to "Oh sh*t!"
Astra! - "Cool!"
Blast!/Blaster bolts!/Slag! - "Shoot!"
By the Core!
By the Emperor's black heart!
By the Holy Stars!
Chaos take me! - mild expletive suggesting the subject is doing something they know is unwise
Sweet mother of Chaos!
Slang:
Barve - loosely equivalent to pig
Bongo - hitman
Borg - cyborg
Cargo hold - Spacers' slang for backside; ass
Choobies - "Pain in the choobies."
Clambake - a blaster fight
Comm call - conversation carried out by using an electronic communications device
Commo - term used for anything related to communications
Earworm - Corellian term for nuisance/pest
Flyboy/Rocketjock/Skyboy - starfighter pilot
Glitbiter - drug addict
Laserbrain - an insult
Nerfherder - an insult
Meat can - slang for soldier, referring to armor
Pateesa - friend, sweetie, darling
Mesh'la - beautiful
Sayings/Phrases:
As slippery as a greased Dug - untrustworthy
As smooth as the surface of a neutron star - very smooth, sly
Clear skies - phrase used to wishing someone a good journey
Corellian Overdrive - phrase meaning doing whatever one needs to do in order to get to where one needs to get to
Do garrals have freckles? - "Does night follow day?"
Few starships short of a fleet - insane
Give her the gun - "Go as fast as possible"
Haul jets - Spacer slang for departing an area as fast as possible
Pure Sabacc - slang term indicating perfect
The Skifflin is out of the sack - "cat is out of the bag"
Backrocket - adj, used figuratively to mean backwards or quaint
Bantha fodder - "And it all went to Bantha fodder." / "We'll all be Bantha fodder."
Black nerf - black sheep
Blaster happy - "trigger happy"
Blue Milk Run - an ordinary and uneventful mission
Braze - air pollution; short for "brown haze"
Carbon Flush - vulgar expression used to indicate an extremely displeasing situation
Dirtside - going to a planet's surface
Final jump - a euphemism for death, used by spacers
Jumped-up Corellian dirt farmer - an insult
Skifter - an illegal face-changing Sabacc card often employed by cheaters
Drooling Drebble with fangs - a nasty bounty hunter
Sevari sidestep - elegantly eluding the authorities
This is not to say that you absolutely have to use any of these. These are just some examples of how you can spice up your posts. Remember to use phrases your species/planet would use and have fun with it!
