Why was he returning here? There would be nothing left, his house had probably been demolished by the empire many years ago. But still, he could not help but go back.
Xeones put the ships thrusters in reverse as he slowed his decent into the atmosphere. Even from up here the trees looked familiar. He could make out his old village, the humble brick homes lining a small road. He found a clearing a half mile away and set the ship down. He then put the ramp down and walked down it.
The air was fresh and clear. It was good to be home. He walked into the village that he grew up in. He first stopped in front of his old house. It was still here. He knocked on the door, nobody home. Xeones peered around the street to see if anyone was near. He pushed the door slightly and to his surprise it opened. When he entered, everything he remembered was still there. Well most of the furnishings had been taken but everything was well intact. He went into his old bedroom and found a picture of him, his mom, and his dad. Xeones did not feel sad. He felt that he would have made his parents proud. He then walked outside when a neighbor called to him.
"We thought you might return someday, so we left everything how it was, well most of it."
Xeones nodded, he held up the picture of his family. "Thank you, I appreciate it. I don't know why I came here, but I guess I feel more at ease now.”
